Here is another wonderful reminder by Ignatian Solidarity Network that many asylum-seekers are in danger. Please watch the news regarding the asylum issue. Thanks, Sue
As many of us are slowly easing back into our regular routines after the holidays, the Ignatian Solidarity Network (ISN) is getting ready for an eventful and busy year!
In 2020, we must continue advocating for asylum seekers at the border and DACA and TPS holders, and working to protect undocumented communities from aggressive ICE raids. This summer, the Supreme Court will announce their ruling on DACA, and thousands of DACA recipients could be in danger of losing their status.
These issues are not easy to tackle, but ISN is prepared with a host of programs to equip our network to advocate—including summits for impacted immigrants and allies at colleges, universities, and parishes, a Jesuit Parish Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill, opportunities for encounter, and more.
The 2020 Election will allow us to reevaluate who is representing us on a local and national level. All those who are able and eligible to vote must be registered to do so! Do you need to register to vote or update your registration? If so, check out vote.gov. This nonpartisan site operated by the U.S. Federal Government provides information in English and Spanish for anyone seeking to register to vote, including those turning 18, in the lead-up to the 2020 primary and general elections.
Last month, the Jesuit Conference of Canada and the United States and the U.S. Jesuit provincials released a video on the Jesuit Migrant Solidarity site where they expressed the importance of advocating for our migrant siblings at the border. In the video, Fr. Santarosa, provincial of Jesuits West, shares how we often speak about migrants as "them," but in reality, it's us. "It's all of us together, and that's the image that God has for his Kingdom," says Fr. Santarosa. Make sure to WATCH THE VIDEO and then join the Jesuits, ISN, Jesuit Refugee Service, and the Kino Border Initiative by taking action for migrants with this Action Alert.
We must keep advocating this year for our immigrant siblings, and we must hold our elected officials accountable. I can't wait to see all the blessings we receive this year.
